Shorties is our regular ongoing journal featuring sports romance flash, short stories, and novelettes by various authors. We release a new volume when we reach our max page count. Anyone can submit, and submissions are open year-round. Distribution information is the same as our regular novels.

What’s a Shorty?

The founders of this press are pure ice hockey nerds. Being “shorthanded” in hockey refers to having fewer players on the ice during play as a result of taking a penalty. A “shorty” is slang for a shorthanded goal made by the outnumbered team whose player slipped by the advantaged team for a breakaway and scored while disadvantaged. But in our case? A shorty serves just as well for referring to the short stories that make up our sports romance journal. The best of both worlds.

Submissions

• This journal is for individual SPORTS ROMANCE short stories, short fiction, flash, micro, hybrid, and novelettes only.
• Material doesn’t have to be fluffy, but should have a sport, a romance, and a happy ending.
• Open to all styles, themes, relationships, identities. Love is love.
• Up to 30,000 words per story.
• Any sport, broad categorization.
• Must be 18 to submit.
• We pay .08¢ per word (.008 x word count) up to $40 max, OR you can opt to receive one copy of the paperback volume instead. We also give one complimentary epub and PDF to authors included in the volume.
